Climate-Positive Cocoa & Biochar from Liberia — at Scale
Delivering premium cocoa, high-integrity carbon credits, and stronger livelihoods for 50,000+ farmers.
We Create A Safer Virtual World For Your Future
We are a Liberian impact enterprise on a mission to turn cocoa farming into a climate solution. We empower smallholder farmers with sustainable agroforestry practices and innovative biochar carbon removal, delivering premium-grade cocoa and high-integrity carbon credits. Our model is built on transparency and trust: every step (from planting to export) is monitored and blockchain-verified, ensuring all cocoa is deforestation-free and fully traceable. In practice, this means farmers see higher yields and incomes, while partners (and consumers) get confidence that every chocolate bar makes a positive impact.
Our Mission
At our core, we believe in “Cocoa for Climate and Community”. Our mission is to create a climate-positive cocoa value chain in Liberia that benefits people and the planet.
Our Vision
Our vision is a climate-positive cocoa future for Liberia. We see farms leading in sustainability—plantations that restore soil and wildlife, where cocoa removes more carbon than it emits.

1. Cocoa Agroforestry
We manage mixed-species cocoa farms that combine elite cocoa trees (including locally-developed hybrids) with shade trees and cover crops. This agroforestry system improves soil fertility, water retention, and yields. Our 5,000 ha anchor farm in Nimba (plus a network of 50,000 smallholder plots) focuses on EU-quality “Grade 1A” beans. We use block-based farm IDs and satellite monitoring to ensure every bean is traceable. These tools and processes directly satisfy traceability and legality checks in global markets. By emphasizing best practices (pruning old trees, replanting high-yield varieties, organic inputs), we raise both quantity and quality of cocoa, tapping into growing premium markets.
2. Biochar Carbon Removal
We convert cocoa waste into value. Through small-scale pyrolysis units distributed across communities, farm residues (pods, shells, pruned wood) are heated without oxygen to produce biochar. The biochar is then applied to fields as a rich soil amendment—significantly enhancing yields and resilience. Crucially, pyrolysis sequesters carbon: one-third of the original CO₂ remains locked in stable biochar (with >100 year permanence). Each tonne of biochar generates a verified carbon removal credit, creating a new income stream. For context, projects in Ghana are scaling similar models (e.g. pyrolyzing 100,000+ ha of old cocoa trees to remove ≈54,000 tCO₂/year while feeding biochar back to farmers). By selling these high-integrity credits at $100–$200/t, Axion Terra funds field operations and shares revenue with farmers.
3. Digital MRV & Traceability
Transparency is non-negotiable. We assign each farm a unique blockchain-backed ID and use satellite imagery plus field surveys to measure planting, yields, and carbon stocks in real time. Blockchain’s tamper-proof ledger and geospatial technology ensure every step – from planting a tree to shipping beans – is recorded securely. This guarantees compliance with EU due-diligence: every cocoa shipment is provably deforestation-free and legally produced. Our MRV platform (in partnership with digital tools like Impact Inside and TerraTrac) integrates farm-level data into audit trails for auditors and buyers. The result is complete farm-to-cup traceability, giving international chocolate manufacturers confidence in sustainable sourcing and customers assurance of ethical, eco-friendly products.
4. Community & Compliance
Farmers are our partners, not suppliers. We organize farmers into cooperatives, extend fair loans, and invest in local development. For example, under the EU-backed LICSIP program, over 5,000 Liberian farmers gained access to low-interest credit (≈6%) to rehabilitate old cocoa farms. We scale such models: offering microcredit lines and Village Savings & Loan support so that even women and older farmers can hire labor or buy inputs. Community funds (e.g. for schools or clinics) are generated from a share of profits. Importantly, Liberia’s Land Rights Act (2009) and Community Forests Law grant communities control over their land. We honor this by ensuring that carbon and cocoa revenues flow back into the same communities. Land-use decisions and benefit-sharing are guided by elected farmer committees. In sum, our compliance framework marries international standards (e.g. UN SDGs, EUDR) with local laws and customs – protecting people and forests while boosting incomes.
